Our Story
Nestled in the heart of Historic Valley Junction, Tulip Bloom Boutique was founded in 2025 by sisters Rochelle Postma and Alyssa Lewman. Drawn to the district’s charm and close-knit feel, they immediately felt at home—it reminded them of the small Dutch town where they grew up.
Raised in Orange City, Iowa, a community known for its Tulip Festival and deep Dutch heritage, Rochelle and Alyssa were surrounded by tradition, entrepreneurship, and small-town warmth. Tulips, their favorite flower and a cherished part of their hometown culture, became a meaningful symbol of the beauty and welcoming spirit they wanted to bring to their boutique.
Entrepreneurship runs in their family. Their dad built and ran his own home improvement business for over 30 years, while their mom owned a children’s clothing store. They also grew up watching their grandmother run a café and seeing other family members pursue their own business dreams. This foundation instilled in them a passion for retail, design, and creating a space that feels like home.
The idea for Tulip Bloom Boutique came to life during one of their holiday shopping traditions in 2024. What started as a casual conversation quickly turned into a vision for a boutique that blends stylish fashion, timeless home décor, and meaningful gift-giving.
Tulip Bloom is more than just a store—it’s a space where customers become friends, where fashion meets home, and where inspiration blooms every day.
Meet the Sisters
We’ve always shared a love for fashion, design, and small business. Growing up around our mom’s boutique, we saw firsthand the joy of helping customers find something special. A simple shopping trip turned into a big idea, and soon, Tulip Bloom Boutique was born.
Rochelle Postma
I married my high school sweetheart, Aric, while still in college, and after graduating, we moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where I earned my CPA license and built a career in accounting.
Aric and I have three amazing sons—Andrew, Sam, and Cooper—and we call Johnston, Iowa, home. Now that our boys are growing up and venturing into their own lives, I’m embracing new adventures and finding hobbies that bring me joy. Launching Tulip Bloom with my sister has been a dream come true. With my background in business and my love for fashion and design, I’m excited to help create a boutique that offers a one-of-a-kind shopping experience for our customers.
The name Tulip Bloom holds special meaning for us. Tulips have always been one of our favorite flowers, symbolizing growth, beauty, and new beginnings. It felt like the perfect name for our boutique—a place where we can share our love for fashion, home décor, and creativity with others.
Alyssa Lewman
Retail and design have always been my passion. With over 20 years of experience in retail and five years as a design consultant, I specialize in merchandising and creating beautiful, functional spaces. I love helping people personalize their homes and curate wardrobes that make them feel confident and stylish.
Joining forces with my sister to open Tulip Bloom is the perfect blend of my experience and our shared love for boutique shopping. I can’t wait to welcome customers into our store, build relationships, and provide a fun and inspiring shopping experience in Valley Junction.
